Vivian Maier: Who took Nanny’s Pictures?

I was lucky enough to watch Alan Yentob’s BBC Imagine Documentary “Vivian Maier: Who Took Nanny’s Pictures”  last night and was totally enthralled. It was a lot creepier than I had imagined it would be but I’ve gained a new respect for Ms. Maier as a person and as a photographer. The impression of her personality expressed during the documentary was psychologically interesting but frankly a little disappointing since she has become one of my photographer idols. I am trying my best not to let that disappointment cloud my appreciation of her work and skills and it seems to be working so far :). If you ever have the opportunity to watch this film DO IT! Vivian Maier was a stellar photographer and it seems that who she was as a person was what made her the best photographer she could be more than anything else.

  1. I must admit, it had a similar impression on me. I had built her up in my mind and ignored the sadness and isolation that maybe was part of her photos. it was fascinating though wasn’t it?
